PRESS RELEASE
MONTREAL – Canadiens GM Bob Gainey announced Tuesday the
signing of goaltender Cristobal Huet to a two-year contract. As per team
policy, terms of the deal were not disclosed.
Huet, 28, was acquired from the Los Angeles Kings on June 26 along
with center Radek Bonk in return for goaltender Mathieu Garon and a 2004
third-round draft pick.
Huet was born in Saint-Martin D’Heres, France, and joined the Kings
after having played both with Grenoble, in France, and with Lugano in
the Swiss Elite League from 1994 through 2002. He was Los Angeles’ 7th
round pick (214th overall) in 2001. Huet played for France at both the
1998 Winter Olympics in Nagano and at the 2002 Winter Olympics in Salt
Lake City. Last season, he played in 41 games with the Kings, posting a
2.43 goals-against average and a team-leading .907 save percentage. He
ended the season with a record of 10 wins, 16 losses, 10 ties, and three
shutouts.
